from his Oak Park studio near Chicago, Frank Lloyd Wright was at the vanguard of a movement that would change American architecture forever. He gained notoriety with every commission. The high profile of his professional life brought attention to his personal life. The daily Newspapers hungered for scandals about prominent people and rights. Family troubles put his life in an unwelcome spotlight. In 1909 he decided to get away and accepted the offer of a Berlin publisher, Ernst Wa Smith, to publish a portfolio of his best work for distribution in Europe. There were 100 drawings in the Wall Smith portfolio, including renderings of the Unity Temple, the Robie House, the Martin House and the Westcott House. This architectural treasure, this house that engendered a special pride. Frank Lloyd Wright himself was almost lost.
